Purchasing equipment and services in real currency

The Old Curiosity Shop exists within the Avalon world as a means to procure items and services with real-world dollars.

In response to the heartening awakening of new talent and old, many ambitious for forthcoming Gem Quests or to hasten their character's onto Avalon's singularly challenging proving grounds: we announce the Grand Opening of the Old Curiosity Shop with branches in all four major cities and a central establishment in Eleusis open to all-comers.

Here ye, here ye, get your wares and services fresh and hot! To ease your burdens of time and effort, the master of the Curiosity Shop can provide at a nominal price to anyone that which may be holding them back in their chances or participation because of the time and effort to obtain such basic essentials.

Syntax: GOODS
Shows you what is for sale in the "Old Curiosity Shop" along with price, a description of contents and how to refer to it when buying (if an item) or info on the server, price and how to specify the personalised service when purchasing. At the top of the GOODS list will be how many potion sips, how many herbs/poisons per pocket, how many charges you will receive from the apposite service. See below for more details on the ITEMS and SERVICES themselves.

Syntax: PURCHASE <item> or PURCHASE <service>
Very simply, to buy one of the item (or item collections) or avail yourself of one of the services you type PURCHASE followed by the ITEM-NAME or SERVICE. Remember to include the unique number when buying item collections, e.g. BUY SACK1124 to purchase the forty-five potion collection referred to by sack1124, or BUY POUCHUP to purchase the pouch-filling service and top off all your worn/held pouches to the maximum possible contents.

NOTE: since this is a real purchase you will need to ensure payment data is up-to-date (see HELP PAYING) and Avalon will require you to confirm the item or service you are buying by asking you to type the price amount in numbers, e.g. if something costs 19 dollars you will need to type NINETEEN to conclude. All items bought or services procured are applied to your character immediately and as soon as you have confirmed, you will receive the goods or be informed as a service is rendered; for instance your potions replenished, as each is filled to maximum sips.


Commonly available ITEMS for anyone to purchase:

  • 20 USD for herb pouch of 1500 lestagii (all 6 pockets with 250 lestagii)
  • 20 USD for herb pouch of other healing herbs (500 lestagii, 500 tyrlar, 500 yavethalion; two pockets with 250 of each)
  • 20 USD for herb pouch of essential herbs (250 herbs in each of 6 pockets)
  • 15 USD for herb pouch of major/minor herbs (all six pockets with 250 herbs)
  • 20 USD for herb pouch of advanced poisons (all 6 pockets 250 poisons)
  • 15 USD for herb pouch of essential poisons (all 6 pockets 250 poisons)
  • 25 USD for FORTY-FIVE essential potions (all 45 potions 220 sips)
  • 20 USD for arm-greaves, platemail, helm, shield (95% armour, max repair) plus crystal rapier (masterforged, max cared repair)
  • 20 USD for a gift card of 100 lessons to give another player

Personalised SERVICES include:

  • XPBOOST: boost your level to its highest point, i.e. the maximum you have attained in the past (delimited to Avalonian+30%)
  • POUCHUP: fill all pouches in your hands or worn to 250 each pocket
  • POTIONFILL: fill all potions in your inventory to 220 sips per potion
  • SECURITY: fully safeguard your inventory with oval, snowflake, anvil and anchor runes (all 90 Avalon months or three RL months protection)
  • FULLCHARGE: recharges your held/worn magical items to 1500 charges each
  • CHARMING: purchase a specified charm in a ring or item of your choice
  • BLOODBOOST: boosts your bloodless balance to its highest prior level
  • PSYCHOBOOST: increases your psycho-resonance to highest former level
  • LUMENBOOST: boosts lumens in the arcana to maximum ever attained

WARNING: The POUCHUP, POTIONFILL, SECURITY and FULLCHARGE services only take into account items openly held or worn; not those contained in sacks, backpacks, boxes or containers.

Price for items does not vary but cost of services WILL vary according to your character's unique inventory and requirements, e.g. if you have ten herb pouches with just a few herbs and poisons in each pocket the cost of the POUCHUP will be more than for somebody with a few pouches almost filled to the maximum. The price you see in GOODS is uniquely worked out for you and is exact - for your character, at that time.

In all cases its services intend to obviate the expense of great amounts of time and effort one may not otherwise have and restrain enjoyment of Avalon. Gift cards when bought must be SIGNed for the person you wish to receive the lessons and then given to the lucky recipient.

Let us stress the following and spare further questions on this matter: Avalon's ethos is very simple on the use of real world currency for character benefit. Anything you can buy will be items or acquirements EVERYONE can ultimately obtain over time through in-game means.

There will never be super-weapons or equipment giving unfair advantage. There may be customised aesthetically wondrous items or CCCs but none will have attributes any greater than the everyday equivalents. There will never be a way to buy a skill-set not available to all in your profession. There will never be a way to buy that which makes one person fundamentally "better" than another. Artifacts are won on merit or given out by divine authority only. What you buy in the "Old Curiosity Shop" store is faster attainment / replenishment of those things available to everyone over time; speed and convenience and readiness when required.


Where is the nearest "Old Curiosity Shop" in my city?

You may find this shop of purchasable wares and services just SOUTH then EAST from "Crossroads of the Main Street" in Eleusis (the jet-black milestone).

  • In Mercinae it is NORTH from "East of Cassiandora Square"
  • In Thakria it is NORTH from "Northeast of Thakria Square"
  • In Parrius it is SOUTHWEST then WEST from Hellesopnt Square along "Mariner's Highway"
  • In Silverfalls it is WEST from "Western side of Silverfalls Square".
