Do not bully people!
Sadism is a moral choice and not a mechanical one. Remember your role and your city or guild. Treating everyone or 'all opponent players' as if they are mere robots is as bad as playing like a bot yourself. Mercinae is not Thakria. Parrius is not Silverfalls. HELP FOUNDING plus history plus current personalities equals alignment, outlook and standards to maintain; a challenge in some cases and not something to be lightly set aside no matter how convenient in the moment.
LW should not be attacked or bullied and the treatment of LWs is considered a shared responsibility for gods and mortals to give the LW as wide an experience and insight into the possibilities of Avalon so by the time LW is over, they're on the right path. Seniors guiding or aiding LWs must be given the benefit of the doubt. Abuses of this privilege should be made public. Driving players from the land at this stage is unacceptable. The days of 'Avalon life is tough get a helmet' attitude to the junior phase are gone.
MW is an interim point between junior and full player but closer to LW. MW are not protected like LW/novices. There is much reliance - and trust - on the judgment of senior players here and it is bad gameplay when the gods end up having to police the line between 'Avalon as a violent crucible, ever challenging' and 'Avalon as a bullying environment, repetitive and drab'. The former will have its casualties. But the strong will survive. The latter has casualties strong and weak but because of character age and skills and condition, not player excellent. Avalon should always be about the latter.
Simple rules of thumb: MWs become worthy of attack during periods of direct competitive conflict like city wars, gem quests, tribute battles, etc. The limit of attack should be placed at a ship ride. The ship ride is a statement of consequences brought home. If the MW strikes back in earnest after the resurrection to continue the fight, he or she earns another ride (unless the strike is painfully feeble and unworthy or blindly self-sabogating). If the MW turns away and goes about his/her game then it behoves the senior to let this be. The LW/junior responsibility might come into play here: pass on some learning, suggest improvements in fighting, make sure the MW knows the why and the wherefore of the kill.
These are not hard and fast rules the sense they are all you need to consider and anything else is free to be abused. Avalon tries to be a broad church and not a realm where players are treated like preschoolers needing a rule for ever occasion. This will only be perpetuated by maturity from the majority. Be violent, be aggressive, be vengeful, be unyielding, be whatever you want to be but respect the junior and middling phases because these players are not yet full equipped or full grown.
Abuse of LW, MW and middling players (plus returning elderly not yet restored to full strength) is a bad and ultimately self-defeating choice. Avalon espouses a liberal environment. Will this mean you get away with some bullying? Yes. Will it mean you might see others bully at times? Yes. Will this result in subjective actions when bullying is finally judged too much? It will, inevitably. There are channels for complaint but in the end, nobody in Avalon is so base or childish they can't see the wood for the trees: empathy enough to appreciate the position of the bullied, intelligence enough to see the reasoning of the reluctant judge (i..e. deity imposing censure) and sympathy from shared experience to be a positive or negative influence on the player getting a slap for bullying. Be the positive influence.
We all get a better Avalon if we simply act like everyone is a real person as well as a player. God or mortal, the realm is as we define it and the hope remains this is a singular land and a unique game and can remain this strange totalitarian anarchy where past, future and players actually matter.
