Psycho793

Psycho, Walker of the Twilight 793 aDW

On the 6th day of Midsummer, 793 years after the Divine War, an excitable and naive young man of 20 years stopped for a brief rest on the grassy knoll in the centre of Cassiandora Square. A visitor from one of the tiny trading villages of the northern Greenwood, young Psycho was entranced by the bustling metropolitan atmosphere that confronted him in the heart of Mercinae. Instantly, he made his decision. With a brief sigh of regret for the peaceful days he was leaving behind him, Psycho decided then and there to become a permanent citizen of the city of Justice and Honour.

During his first tentative attempts at exploration, young Psycho was awestruck as a majestic figure descended from the skies on the back of a majestic white dragon. Being used to seeing creatures no more mystical than village sheep, Psycho's mind was filled with questions with which he accosted the weary old Mage - Sarik the Legerdemainer. Patiently the powerful Sarik explained the profession to his young acquaintance, the awesome power it brought and the responsibilities it carried. Greedily devouring every word the old Mage uttered, Psycho beseeched his new-found mentor for entry into the Guild. After some brief words with the Mages' Guildmaster Eshkadeth, his request was granted and Psycho was initiated into the Guild.

Shortly after his initiation, Psycho began to learn how to use his skills and experimented frequently. During the course of one of his experiments, a young Sorceror fell to the equally inexperienced Mage. This skirmish was to trigger one of the shaping moments of the young man's life. Unknown to him, the young Sorceror (whose name is lost to the mists of time) had scurried back to his Guildmaster, the formidable Helkarakse, seeking vengeance. The dread Sorceror gave his dark word that this would be done. Young Psycho, practicing his skills in the ancient room of the stars where the oracle sits was puzzled by a magical gateway that appeared in the air before him. His curiosity soon turned to fear as he recognized the silhouette of Helkarakse emerging from the darkling void. Stepping from his gateway with an entourage of horrific demons and the Demon Lord Tagrak in tow, Helkarakse ordered the creatures to set upon poor Psycho. The young Mage, paralysed by fear, could only stand and watch as the four-armed Tagrak slashed his weak skin with scythes of purest adamant. Aboard the Ships of Death, Psycho swore that some day he would have vengeance...

The next years that passed were industrious ones for the young Mage. Studying and practicing with endless fervour, he grew from an idealistic youth to a vital Mage. Under the auspices of his patron and mentor Castigere, the god of justice, Psycho rose to become Guildmaster of the Mages and a Baron of Mercinae. As his name grew in stature and prominence, Psycho began to be known as The Walker of the Twilight, a mysterious and puzzling alias the meaning of which was unclear to all but Psycho himself. He became a formidable fighter, a Mage that even the mightiest in the land would fear. One bitter day in Leaflost, Psycho closed his eyes for a moment and sensed out the presence of the Sorceror Helkarakse.

Leaving the safety of the Mages Guild, Psycho flew on the swift wings of his trusty dragon to Emperor's Walk in the heart of Thakria. With the knowledge that his age-old foe was mere yards away in the Town Council Halls, the Mage began to fortify the Walk with all the rituals he could muster. When Helkarakse emerged, Psycho set upon him, channeling all his vengeful energies directly into his magical power. Helkarakse panicked as he saw his demons wrenched back into their own plane by Psycho's rituals, and before long fell before the Mage's might.

Despite Psycho's greatest efforts, he could not prevent the Ordination of Helkarakse. In a fit of frustrated anger, Psycho stormed from Mercinae's Council Chambers and vanished for half a century.

No-one knows what became of the Walker of the Twilight during his fifty year absence, but the man who returned was an individual more sober and focused. After learning how to fight once more and becoming acquainted with the newly discovered art of Candescence, Psycho began to seek out new challenges and opportunities for wealth and power. These ideals began to conflict with those of his Mercinaen counterparts, and this new man felt a gulf growing ever wider between himself and what had been his home for almost a century. One fateful night, after a skirmish with one of Mercinae's own Knights, The Walker of the Twilight quit the Mages Guild and the city of Mercinae.

It was not long until Psycho was drawn to the only place that could offer him satisfaction - Thakria, the City of Miracles. Having heard of this experienced Mage's history and prowess, Thakria's citizens welcomed him with open arms. Singe quickly accepted him into the Guild of Warlocks, and Thakria's Prince Xandamere greeted this former enemy warmly. Under the patronage of the mighty Lazarus, god of pain, Psycho became a formidable foe to Mercinae and Parrius, countless citizens of the cities falling to his wit and skill.

After a series of particularly glorious encounters with the devious Alchemist Allanon, the cowardly Rogue Taliesin and the mystic Prince of Mercinae Ithakus, the Walker of the Twilight proved his worth even further. The honour of being the only worshipper of Lazarus to hold Follower status was bestowed upon him by his Lord. This recognition was further bolstered by Psycho's receiving of the greatest honour Thakria can bless a citizen with : Princedom. Within a mere Avalon year of his arrival in the City of Miracles, the Walker of the Twilight had risen from a common refugee to Prince of Thakria.

Nobody save the omniscient Genesis, god of time, can tell what the future holds for Thakria and its Prince, but Psycho's colourful history will ensure that there are many exciting encounters to come...
