FTP stands for File Transer Protocol and, in internet jargon, it refers to sending or receiving files to and from remote sites and your home computer.
Avalon runs a publicly available FTP site, accessible by the general public using standard FTP software (available for all computers and all setups; see Google and search for: ftp software <my computer type> e..g. ftp software apple osx - there are thousands of FTP programs out there.
To use Avalon's site you merely need to connect to: ftp..avalon-rpg.com
You can login as: anonymous
You will be asked to give a password, and if using the "anonymous" login the polite net-behaviour is to leave your e-mail address as password.
Once you are hooked up to Avalon's FTP site you will perceive various sub-direcories, each containing potentially interesting or useful items - all free and unrestricted. You can take (download) as much or as often as you like. If you are using a setup which expects you to know your FTP basics, check out HELP FTPING for a rundown on FTP commands and what they do/how they work.
Standard sub-directories we offer and contents are:
clients - containing software to enable or enhance your playing of Avalon, e..g. AvPlay the original MUD client.
guides - documents providing insight into the Avalon world and its diverse gamesystem.
history - narratives and/or first-hand documents of significance taken from all periods of Avalon's long history. Some are written by us; others by players.
logs - directly recorded Avalon game sessions, from the perspective of whichever player is making the record - often fascinating both as a learning tool and an unbiased historical 'document'.
misc - anything else we might wish to offer for download will be placed in the "misc" directory.
