Declarations: Peace and war, conquest and occupation and beyond

The DECLARE command is typically the province of the Field Marshall (in the case of territorial claims) and the Ambassador (in the case of broad-sweeping declarations of outlook or feeling of the city towards another organisation).


Declarations of dominance in sphere of influence and occupied territory


Syntax: DECLARE OCCUPATION

Within a town or a village that bears your city's flag of influence in all its key locations (See HELP 21.3 and the OCCUPATION command for detailed specifics), and while marshalled at a commandpost of at least twenty legionnaires (company size), issue this command to begin the occupation process. You will need to be within a key location and your legions will need to be undefeated for a designated period (shown by the OCCUPATION command) after which the occupation will be in place. Hostile legions CAN disrupt the occupation process and will need to be removed for the occupation to proceed unhindered. Once occupation is complete, it will be possible to exact tribute from the occupied town or village (see HELP TRIBUTES for specifics).


Syntax: DECLARE CONQUEST

A declaration of conquest requires your home city's flag of occupation (note the distinction twixt flag of occupation and flag of influence) in ALL locations within the area designed part of that town or village. With that in place and while you yourself are within a key location and at a commandpost of at least a hundred legionnaires, you will be able to make the DECLARE CONQUEST before all of Avalon and begin the process for full dominance of the area. An Avalon year must pass, of unchallenged occupation, at which point the conquest will be concluded. The glorious standards of your homeland will fly over the whole town or village and tribute potentials will rise beyond the former occupied levels in keeping with your newly established dominance.


Declarations of feelings and outlook on behalf of entire home city (requires aideship to the Ambassador)


Syntax: DECLARE WAR <organisation>

Within the chambers of your city council, use this command to make a declaration of war against the specified organisation. This will be witnessed by the entire land and ensure that your city assumes a war-like attitude against whosoever you have made your declaration. CCCs will become hostile, gatehouse fortifications will block passage of citizens of the enemy territory, market stalls will refuse sales, the list goes on.


Syntax: DECLARE PEACE <organisation>

Again, while within the city council chambers, use this command to remove a war declaration and return to a state of peace. All of Avalon will bear witness and circumstances will return to peaceful status.


Syntax: DECLARE ENEMY <organisation>

A precursor to the war declaration, this command will officially establish enemy status between your home city and the specified organisation.


Syntax: DECLARE FRIEND <organisation>

Declares the organisation specified as a friend to your home city, ensuring no state of hostility exists between you.


Syntax: DECLARE NEUTRALITY <organisation>

Declares a state of neutrality between your city and the chosen organisation. This will ensure no friend, enemy, war or peace status exists.
