The Quest Master, along with the Minister for Justice (generally the individual in charge of internal-combat training affairs), gain access to the Battle Arena. From the guild, the Guildmaster and the Head Tutor are also able to interact/control the Battle Arena. Deities are also able to use the ARENA command freely. See HELP ARENA for an overview of the Battle Arena, concept and public commands.
The 'arena' is a self-contained two dozen location area in which combat training or freeform fighting can be practised without depletion of precious equipment or loss of experience. It does not require huge knowledge of the land since the arena is relatively small and easy to get around but allows use of all melee capabilities. The command used for this is ARENA and to open access, type ARENA SETUP followed by ARENA CLEANSE, then ARENA ON. This will announce to everyone in your city and everybody in the area you're standing in (see SURVEY) that the arena has been opened.
You then declare competitors using the ARENA COMPETITOR <individual> command, on those wishing to take part. The prospective competitor must be standing at the Rock Pinnacle, which is the location also of the gateway portal to the 'Audience Chamber' from whence it is possible to enter the arena itself. See HELP COMPETITOR for important info on competitor status and the advantages of this status when giving fighting classes or engaging in combat challenges.
When the Quest Master or Justice Minister decides the combat experience is sufficient, he/she must type ARENA OFF to close everything down and ARENA CLEANSE to tidy up any leftovers from within. This will close off all portals, restore normal status to all competitors and move anyone remaining in the arena back to mainland Avalon.
