After a lengthy hiatus, events have returned to Avalon as part of the recent resurgence
of activity and development. With 4 teams and over 20 participants, the Battle Isle was a
flurry of activity and combat.
Lleu, Aerian, Mystfade, and Fenris led the teams, with strong representation from all three
of the major cities. Despite the length of time since the last event, the competition was
surprisingly close, with 3 of the 4 teams essentially neck and neck throughout the contest and
the 4th still with the possibility of victory up until the final round. In the end, it was Aerian's
Gold team that pulled off the victory, thanks to some last-minute heroics: Veradux of the Red team
managed to get Fenris' sands, which if held at the end would have ensured victory for Blue. Red was now
in position to win, but before he could reach the runestave-fortified protection of Lleu, Veradux
was brought down by Sarvar. The Sorcerer was in turn slain, but quick-witted Darian managed to scoop
up the sands before an opposing team could take them, ensuring victory for Gold.
It was an impressive performance all around, especially seeing how few of the participants were
experienced in this type of group fighting. There were encouraging performances from veteran
Avalonians as well as the young - Darian was one of the top sands-getters and holders, while
Ashlanir was near the top of the kill lists. Broad participation from younger Avalonians bodes
well for Avalon as a whole, while the success of Darian and Ashlanir shows that Parrius is on the
rise - with the return of warfare on the horizon, the Jewel of the East looks like a formidable
force once again.
