A dozen loaves, as you know, would last probably an hour if you were lucky. I am unable to enter Avalon every night with certainty, and would rather leave well-stocked stalls just in case than to return to find all the citizens dead due to starvation. Popping to the council chambers every hour is impractical if there is to be anything else in the game for the barons to take part in, so large stocks seem to be the only solution. Obviously, in view of the memory problems highlighted by Genesis, I shall moderate the quantities I make - after all, now that we know about the problems, to continue to stock up the stalls as before *would* be very irresponsible. I was merely taking the opportunity to voice my unease about the frequent need for food, which is fundamental to this issue and needs addressing at the earliest opportunity.
