Whilst I would never suggest what reciprocation a follower might
receive from his patron for loyal service of course your
point of it being a two way thing is totally correct.
The only point in differentiation I would make in my own circumstance
is that whilst I am eternally grateful for the support of my patron
through difficult periods over the years, I did not seek his
patronage for those reasons and would have acted in support of
as a natural thing to do.
Obviously there must be circumstances where certain divinities
do not provide the support a mortal might hope for and those
poor souls must reach their own solution over such circumstances.
