You do this by issuing a challenge, thus eliminating the bloodlust penalty suffered by the challenged.

It is a shame for you, perhaps, that there were no suitably knowledgable folk to advise you of this when Mercinae was invaded, although clearly you should make it your own business to learn such things about the land.
