Throughout history, the most dedicated of soldiers listen to the orders of their
superiors without question, without thought.
Only two persons in each city have the power to declare war upon another city and
obviously these two citizens should be outstanding examples in terms of character and
personality. If one of these persons issued an order, why wouldn't the soldiers of
their city listen?
The job of a soldier is not to think, it is to fight. I would therefore suggest that
your soldiers upon hearing your commands of war, viscously and quite correctly attacked
the enemy legion.
Unfortunately, my personal opinion does not govern what happens in this realm. (As it shouldn't)
In this aspect Mercinae and Parrius are truly lucky, for it is not uncommon for allies to
turn upon their friends.
Fortunately for your citizens, your incompetence has been highlighted for all to see.
Perhaps being ordered to do such an act was no big deal, not realising and stopping the
situation in its tracks certainly was.
