6. The Cityports
Mercinae, the Southern City.
A city devoted to justice and honour for all, ruled by King Thandrades and his democratically elected barons. The city straddles the estuary of the Leithe where that great river meets the Southern Seas. Mercinaens are essentially peaceful, lovers of the arts and the finer things of life, but many will fight like lions for the honour of the city should the occasion arise. Mercinae boasts some great landmarks including an amphitheatre, the beautiful Park Eleyna, and a truly ancient cathedral (which is not somewhere to worship but a place of celebration and union). Trading within the city takes place around the central Cassiandora Square or at the merchants shop which is situated east of the Traders Way in the north quarter. The merchant will buy almost anything from you, but at knock down prices.
Thakria, city of the North.
The great city of the North, often referred to as the City of Miracles, attracts those who seek great power above all else. Ruled by the Emperor Periam, Thakria stands with the Ocean to the West and the Moonstone Lake to the East and teems with trade and plunder. The Thakrians desire for knowledge and power will often lead them into the ways of darkness. Periam himself is ever vigilant for the opportunity to extend Thakrian influence across the Avalon. Traditionally, the most powerful citizens of Thakria have shown their might to the world by building huge towers, riddled with secret passages and entrances and, of course, vaults to hold their treasure. The best known thoroughfare of Thakria, Emperors Walk, has many shops and crosses the main market square. There is a Pawnbrokers shop off the Avenue of Kings which will buy most items from the weary traveller.
Parrius, city of the East.
On the very shores of the eastern oceans lies the great and ancient cityport of Parrius. It is ruled by the Lady Augustine and is home to many mariners and seafaring folk. Parrius has traditionally enjoyed a close relationship with its sister cityport, Mercinae and the trading routes between the two are well established and usually safe to travel. The merchant of Parrius has a shop just east of Hellespont Square, an excellent place to trade unwanted items for gold pieces. Also, when Parrius be sure to visit the stalls of Chapman's Square in the north of the city where some of the finest produce of Avalon can be found on sale.
Springdale, city of the central plains.
Springdale is Avalon's newest city, built on the site of an ancient village in the midst of the fertile central plains of Avalon, on the banks of the river Silverlight. It's young barons are known for their trading acumen and generosity; the Springdale mission gives out free meals to the hungry each and every day of the year.
