27.12 Latest updates and evolutions.

The 'latest' listing below has become a historical record since it has not been updated since the end of June 2009. This is, in part, because the ins and outs of specialisations and professional abilities and quests are not for public consumption but either limited to certain individuals or apposite reward for someone exploring and discovering things for him/herself.

HISTORICAL RECORD: LATEST ADDITIONS TO AVALON THRU JUNE/ANNIVERSARY YEAR 2009


LATEST thru to beginning of Mercinaen Regency 24-June-2009
- "fortifymanning" renamed "forts" for ease of use.

LATEST pre APRIL 2009 and the warfare switchon:
- Amendment to LEGION TEACH reducing requirements, info also held in HELP LEGIONTEACH.
- COM APPROACH SWIMMING, swimming is introduced to deal with water-filled locations and movement around them. See HELP MARCHING for information.

- order of poisons on swords etc should be last one, first off, and not change around over a 24 hour period
- herbs in pipes functioning as was

LATEST: 17-Feb-2009
- DISPATCH CHAIN and DISPATCH UNCHAIN so you can link together dispatches, so one can be executed by a legion immediately after a first.

- DISPATCH PIGEON training levels and locale/battlefield info on return all functional. Pigeons also able to retrieve dispatches once executed.

- oil cauldrons, pouring/igniting and the various possible targets.

- "line of sight" for archery and bombs, barricae/blockage possibilities, as-the-crow-flies implementation crossing locations where applicable giving scope to create defensive. Siegetower=12ft, Fortification=20ft.

- BESIEGE and SIEGETOWER performing their various functions, against their various possible targets!

- Legions auto restructuring when less men (e.g. from brigade down to regiment), but not automated when MORE men. Penalties for large legion that aren't structured correctly (e.g. 500 men as a 'company' will fight and move worse/slower than 500 men as a 'division').

- Anyone can go onto Battleisle for the time being by typing BF IN followed by the name of the town (Celts, Westrons, Goths). Doesn't require divine intervention.

LATEST: to the Quest of the Battle-Isle (Feb 14th weekend/warfare switchon)

- check out top of HELP SUMMARY for ingame abbreviations for warfare commands, e.g. M <dirn> to order legions to march a particular direction, etc.

- Full breeding, livestock, rabbits, pigeons, animal gender, birthing, newborns, yearlings, adolescents thru to maturity (fertile) and reproduction/breeding.
- Skinning across the board now, for all appropriate animals. Butchery likewise.
- HELP PROACTON: siegetowers and cauldrons galore. Full firstphase implementation is complete for both these key warfare items.
- Barricades, levitation, digging away, platforms, roof of locations.
- CLIMB UP/DOWN.
- TUNNEL UP/DOWN.
- Levitating up through locatios or across betwee locations.
- BESIEGE: forts, barricades, scaffold, siegetowers, tunnelheads, trenches,
location directions, fixed oilcauldrons.
- Carrier pigeons bringing back LOCALE/BANNER info. Carrier pigeons being
able to bring back dispatches to sender.
- Offensive actions from within siegetowers, against outside targets.

- new construction item: barricades - see HELP EQUIPMENT - like mobile fortifications.
- COM BARRICADE <height>
- COM SIEGETOWER SHIFT/GRAPPLE/BARRICADE.
- COM SIEGETOWER OPEN/CLOSE
- COM SIEGETOWER FORTIFY <percentage> to armour+fortify siegetowers
- DISPATCH FETCH to fetch dispatches from nearby, if they're from your city/guild/personal stamp.
- COM SIEGETOWER ENTER/LEAVE.
- HELP PROACTION updated with the forthcoming siegetower and oilcauldrons functions (switch on: this coming weekend).
- COM LEVITATE - using 'levitation' skill to change height within a location.
- COM TUNNEL UP - for digging upwards, networks of underground tunnels, able to trench-tunnel in one location, go underground very deep, tunnel across land, COM TUNNEL UP to eventually break through into a pre-existing surface location.
- COM CLIMB UP/DOWN/CEASE to move legions thru up and down exits, or stop the exercise. Needs 'climbing' movement approach and sometimes ladders/levitation.
- Movement approach: "digging" for DIG, TUNNEL, WIDEN, NARROW, levelground deployment, etc.
- Battleworld completed for testwarfare, training exercises on a fullscale, future gemquests(!): Visigoths, Celts and Westrons. Fully diverse landscape. Fully diverse legions.

- Full trench digging, tunnel creation, widening, movement underground - tunnel-potential covering the whole of Avalon.
- HELP TERRAIN currently up-to-date with crucial movement/digging/tunnelling commands.
- metalworm renamed SCAFFOLD. Same parameters, same uses.
LASTEST: 25-Jan-09
- COM TRENCH ASCEND [<dirn>] to take legion out of trench, or trench widened sub-location.
- SPECIAL COST <item> to find out cost/time length for items in HELP CRAFTSMEN/SPECIAL ITEMS list.
- completion of Labours skill: pigeons, tanning, and pelts.
- completion of all-bar-one farming: hutches, breeding, skinning, skinning and butchery.
- Rabbits and pigeons (hutches and lofts) breeding, etc.
- Abilities now exist to create: furs, leather, and meat previously impossible via mortal means.
- Special item: pigeon-loft.
LATEST on weekdays 'twixt battletest 19th to 23rd Jan 2009
- Livestock breeding: cows/bulls, stallions/mares, ewes/rams, billy and nanny goats.
- Craftsmen can now make 'lofts' for pigeon-lofts, see AB LABOURS PIGEONS if you have the skill.
- new CITY FASHION items: trough and manger.
- Livestock can be fed with straw from troughs and mangers.
- Livestock in meadows now eat grass from the meadow, slowly depleting it. The sunshine seasons slowly regrow it.
- HELP LIVESTOCK added.
- DISPATCH PIGEON and DISPATCH RUNNER to send dispatch to faraway legions.
- LEGION PIGEON and LEGION SCOUT pro-activity commands are live, betatesting.
- HELP DISPATCH - implementation of ALL active goals in dispatch form. Note the distinction between goals and missions.
- DISPATCH GIVE to give over dispatches for immediate execution by a legion in your locale - allowing multiple front-line legion commanding.
- COM DIG (proaction) to allow legions to dig down X feet integrated with trenchwork and tunnelwork as the three phases of underground work.
- COM TRENCH CREATE HERE added when legion is at localepoint sufficiently deep, to then allow it to be made deeper, eventually tunnelworthy.
- COM WIDEN when in a deep enough trench to create an entire new location (potentially) under the original one - the start of a tunnel network.
- COM TRENCH DESCEND to allow legions to hide away in trenches.
LATEST on warfare weekend 17th/18th January 2009
- DEPLOY LEVELGROUND to use the "levelground" skill for filling up holes, trenches and the like. Replacing the LANDFILL order previously found in HELP TERRAIN. HELP DEPLOY has new details.
- BIG reduction in oil required to care for lockpicking kits, plus BIG increase in pace of improve/strengthen within one's ability-limits.
- Legion RETRACT pulling legions away from combat more effectively.
- Legion catapult+mortar bomb with increased range but must be facing correct direction.
- Legion's able to construct ladders, and use ladders for trenchwork.
- Legions unable to melee when climbing etc.
- Reduction of legiontext in combat, when text is repetitive. No more forced verbose or forced CONCENTRATE for legion commanders.
- MARSHALLing now taking into account 'leadership' and 'familiarity' stats to sped up the process from its previous 'base' relatively slow pace.
- Effect of multiple attack legions, flanking operations (depending on formation) introduced versus larger legion size; firsthand experience will be required to discover the best permeatations.
- LEGION TEACH updated so lessons can be used to teach legions speedy advancement in specialist skills, syntax and details updated in HELP LEGION. Take note!
- ENGAGE will now (when in default mode) take closest specified enemy legion rather than a random one - judging the biggest threat and dealing with them first, e.g. ENGAGE MERCINAENS ALL will attack closest enemy Mercinaen rather than a random one within longbow range.
LATEST to 15-Jan-09
- LEGION TRAIN <legion> OFF to cease all training in one fell swoop.
- Fortifications centralized at city gates, multiplied out across locations to create a full and useful block.
LATEST: 6-Jan-09
- FORTS HERE command
- Digging, tunnelling and creation of new underground locations/battlefields (potentially).
- Movement approach: running, climbing.
- Trenches, hiding in trenches, minefields adjusted accordingly.
- FORTIFICATIONS in all compass directions, at all locale-points. Legions/fieldworkers only.
- Legion vs legion combat: melee, mortar bombs, archery.
- COM CONSTRUCT CEASE and COM CONSTRUCT START.

- COM DIG digging down making trenches, and then requiring metalworms to bolster walls, and then digging very deep to make tunnel potential.

- CONSTRUCTION of: "survivalkits", "spears", "transport", "bridge", "metalworm", and "costumery" for use with various deployments/scouting/terrain endeavour.

- "forts" deployment brought live, with manning and unmanning fortifications depending on deployment percentage of total legion/forts size.
- "lumberjacking" to include logging and wood gathering.
- "lumberjacking" active deployment brought live, felling trees, wood commodity source - with axe, saw and/or weapons (less effective).
- "healinghands" active deployment brought live.
- CONSTRUCT working for DRAWBRIDGE and LADDERS.
LATEST: 29-Dec-08
- CONSTRUCT requiring commodities (see HELP EQUIPMENT) for all the various items possible to be constructed.
- WORKED command to show everyone if anything is being worked on, at any given moment, and if so what.
- Construction of LONGBOWS and CROSSBOWS and additionally, bows requires to shoot arrows with longbows holding longer-range, crossbows the greater accuracy over shortrange.
- COMMODITY use for most CONSTRUCTION tasks switched off, for testing - exception being fortifications.
- minefields, laying mines, detonating mines, mines causing damage, armouring against mines.
- watermines, operating similar to landmines but also affecting transports and water-based craft.
- minehunting deployment, seeking out and diffusion, dangers thereof.
LATEST: 28-Dec-08
- CONSTRUCT requires ACTIONS - enough of the legion commanded to active deployment - percentage set.
- Reordering of HELP 21 into more logical, intuitive command helpfiles, with HELP DEPLOYMENT, HELP EQUIPMENT, HELP PROACTION and HELP BATTLEFIELD replacing half a dozen less well-ordered helpfiles.

- COM/DISPATCH "DIG" added to dig trenches and into the ground - details in HELP TERRAIN.
- HELP TERRAIN updated re: fortifications and their construction.
- HELP FASHIONS/HELP NEEDLEWORK for labours 'needlework' implementation for creating the latest (or retro) fashion items.
- legions construction fortifications, in centre for locationwide, on a certain direction for defending that direction/blocking enemy movement in single dirns.
- construction via legions for: arrows, weapons, armour, landmine, watermine, siegetower, drawbridge, batteringram.
- legion besieging now requiring battering ram for in-location, and catapult+mortar for further distance siege.
- legion movement speed being encumbered by large items (like catapults, battering rams, etc)
- construction of fortifications require iron rope and marble now as before.
LATEST: 25-Dec-08
- SPECIAL ITEMS: mortar, arrows, oven and stove added.
- Legions will now have to make their own fieldequipment et al.
- Legions now able to use projectiles, catapult+mortar, archers+arrows.
- Legion's CONSTRUCT switched on (see HELP EQUIPMENT/deploy fieldweapons).
- Construction specifically for: catapults, arrows, battering-rams.
