Downloadable Java client for multiple platforms
This Java client has been specially written to cater for those who wish to
take part in the triggerless Divine Gem quest (scheduled for the 19th of September,
2003 at 11pm GMT). However, its design is such that it is certainly an option
as a simple platform from which to access Avalon from many different platforms.
The ability to define aliases and macros makes this a go-between from the simple
telnet, to the more complex Mud telnet clients which often require subscription
(this client, of course, is free). Those new to Avalon are strongly advised
to use the Java option at the top of the previous page, unless you are technically
proficient enough. Those who have played Muds before should not have a problem.
It is a simple and compact client, quick to download and easy to install on
any Windows PC. Thus far, the client has been tested on all versions of Windows,
Linux and Mac OSX. Providing you have an up to date version of Java installed
on your computer, you should not have a problem using this Mud client.
Instructions for running this client are listed below. If you have any problems
then you should feel free to approach Mephisto, god of the night within the
land of Avalon. Alternatively you can e-mail him at mephisto@avalon-rpg.com
Comprehensive help can not be guaranteed immediately if the problem lies with
your system. All efforts will be made to ensure that those who wish to take
part in the gem quest are able to do so.
You will need the two following files:
1) You will need the new Java
platform to run the Java client at its optimum.
2) Click Java Mud
client to download the new Java Mud client.
IMPORTANT: when given the option to save the second file before your
download commences ensure that you choose 'All file types' instead of 'Compressed
file types' as your save option.
Installtion Step One
Once you have downloaded these files, double click on javaupdate.exe it to
begin installation. Follow the installation wizard's instructions.
Installation Step Two
Once you have successfully installed the update simply double click on the
Avalon Java client (avalonclient.jar) and you will be playing in no time.
